Hello!
I am enthusiastic about my career choice as a Art teacher and hope to share with my students the passion for learning and experiencing new things. Through all of my experiences I have learned numerous lessons that I wish to pass onto my students. I have two teachers/mentors to thank for inspiring me to stick to my passion and talent; one was my High School Art teacher, who discovered my sculptural talent, and the other is my Art Professor from college, who helped me grow my talent and has kept encouraging me. From my art career, I have learned important business skills with my own small business, Raw Life Expressions, which has now supported my art career.
I have also had the opportunity to bond with my horse, Nocturne, who has been a wonderful partner through our competition career and even still as we enjoy retirement together. This partnership has taught me that we all learn from each other and I want to instill this in my classroom and my students. Another opportunity I have had was to manage and curate several small galleries, again furthering my business skills. After receiving my Bachelors of Fine Arts degree concentrating in Sculpture, I have struggled to stay in the art industry to continue my art career. Through this struggle I have learned there are many opportunities for artists to continue in the industry after college. I am still in contact with my mentors and am in debt to them as I would not be where I am today. Nor would I have discovered my passion for teaching and sharing the support and encouragement to my students, that was once provided for me. I want to encourage my students to find their talents and passions and follow them, even in the art industry.
There are so many careers and options in this industry, and so much more to be offered than just the starving artist career! It is also important for students to learn that art is not just a useless skill, we use artistic knowledge or interact with art everyday of our lives! We live in a technology-based world that pulls from the artistic industry; you only have to find the connection between technology and art. The creative process is alive across multiple industries and it is time our students accessed this incredible resource.
