1. Clearly describe topic taught.
In this unit we are working on the concept of silhouettes to discover the differences between 2-D and 3-D. During this unit students will be able to work with several different mediums and work cooperatively with another student to reflect on their work on what was done well and what could have been done better.
2. Describe the relevance of the topic to the content standards and within the curricular sequence.
The students will be able to apply the knowledge they gain from this unit to the district assessment that will be taken during the second assignment to close the unit. Each project is directly linked to the standards and build off of the previous to allow for more connections to be made.
3. Explain the significance of the topic globally, personally, and specifically for this population.
The significance of this topic is tied more with the combination of materials and mediums. The students have all had experience with both pastels and watercolors, but this assignment starts to let them combine mediums in one project if they so choose. Since the projects build on one another the knowledge they gain in vocabulary and in skill level allows them to develop their craft and see their own progress. The assignments are also geared toward allowing students to use their art to depict who they are and what they see as important to them personally. This was done in hopes to give students an avenue to express themselves and become more engaged in their learning.
